Why .xlsx instead of CSV
- Types survive. Numbers stay numbers and booleans stay booleans, without the delimiter and encoding surprises of CSV. Dates keep exactly the format you picked.

Good to know
A sheet holds at most 1,048,576 rows, so very large datasets are better as CSV. For developers there are JSON and SQL generators, and templates for common datasets.
FAQ
Is it a real Excel file or a CSV?
A real .xlsx workbook: numbers are number cells, true and false are boolean cells, and nothing depends on the delimiter settings of your computer. Dates are written as text in the format you choose, so Excel does not reinterpret them.
How many rows fit in one sheet?
Excel holds up to 1,048,576 rows per sheet. RNDGen allows 100,000 rows without an account, 1,000,000 on a free account; for more than one sheet can hold, choose CSV.
Can I get several sheets?
Yes. With related tables each table becomes its own sheet in one workbook, and child rows point to ids on the parent sheet.
Does it work with Google Sheets and LibreOffice?
Yes. The .xlsx format opens in Google Sheets, LibreOffice Calc and Apple Numbers as well as in Excel.
